How to Defragment your computer
Operating System: Windows XP Defragmenting your computer is an easy way to speed up system performance. What it does is move all of your data into contiguous segments on your hard drive (where your files are stored) so that your computer can retrieve the data from the drive faster. 1. To access the program needed to defragment your system you should start by closing all of your open applications (word processing, web browsers, etc) 2. You will have to Click on the Start button on the lower left-hand corner of your screen. Select All Programs then Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter. 3. Once you have completed that you will see the screen below. 4. Now all that you will have to do is Select the Drive Letter (in this case C:) and then click Defragment. You will have to wait for the system to say that it has successfully completed before you use your computer again. It may be best to start this before you go to bed for the evening as it does take some time if it hasn’t been done in a while. |
